Compagnie Irene K.
Compagnie Irene K. is an independent contemporary dance company—a non-profit organization—under the artistic direction of Irene Kalbusch. For its productions, the company collaborates with professional dancers and choreographers of various nationalities. The human being, with their desires, fears, and visions, is at the center of the choreographic work. In addition to stage performances for adults and children, Compagnie Irene K. creates works for public spaces. The performers engage with the unique characteristics and architecture of each location, creating ever-changing, ephemeral images that surprise the audience. Furthermore, Compagnie Irene K. regularly develops educational, creative, and interdisciplinary projects and has organized the annual international festival *Tanzende Stadt* since 2005. The ensemble’s work is presented worldwide, with tours in Europe, China, Singapore, and Brazil.
Irene Kalbusch
After completing classical dance training, she studied contemporary dance with Suzanne Hayman-Chaffey and spent time in New York at the Merce Cunningham school. She attended classes and workshops in New York, Paris, Arles, and Cologne.
In 1977, she founded Compagnie Irene K.
In addition to creating choreography for children and adults, she organizes festivals, develops interdisciplinary concepts, and coordinates workshops and educational projects. She is particularly passionate about creating performances for public spaces.
She has received numerous awards for her choreography, including at the International Choreography Competition in Hanover, the International Dance Competition in Pont-à-Mousson, the International Theater Festival in Bulgaria, the Lübeck Dance Festival, and the International Choreography Competition in Paris.
